Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Williamsport Crosscutters, voted the "Most Popular Team in Short-Season Baseball" in a March-Madness style contest presented by BaseballPosts.com, fell to the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox in the Championship Bracket of the March-Madness style competition..

"To be voted by fans across the country as the most popular short-season team in this informal poll was exciting enough", said Cutters Vice President of Marketing Gabe Sinicropi. "To then be one of the final four teams, out of 223, competing for the overall most popular title was more than we could have ever imagined."

"We just want to thank all of our fans and everyone across the country who voted for us throughout the tournament. We were consistently one of the top-vote getters in every round."

Previously, the Cutters cruised to wins over the Auburn Doubledays, Brooklyn Cyclones, Lowell Spinners, Oneonta Tigers, and Vermont Lake Monsters on their way to the short-Season Championship. In doing so, Williamsport garnered the most average votes per round of ANY team in the competition thus earning a #1 seed in the overall championship round.

Two Red Sox affiliates, the Pawtucket Red Sox and the Salem Red Sox will now battle for the title. An overall Minor League Baseball Champion will be crowned on April 30.

The Crosscutters open their 2009 season on June 19th in State College with the home opener slated for Saturday, June 20th. Season Ticket Plans & Bonus Books are available by calling (570) 326-3389 or online at www.crosscutters.com.
