Columbus Crew SC News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Crew takes to the road for a match against the Kansas City Wizards Saturday (Sept. 15) at Arrowhead Stadium, in the midst of a tight three-way battle for eighth place overall. Columbus (6-8-10, 28 pts.) comes off a rain-soaked 1-0 defeat to Chicago on Saturday, which dropped the Crew into a tie for ninth place overall, one point behind Chicago. The top eight teams in the league qualify for the postseason. Chicago plays host to New York on Saturday and Colorado plays host to Chivas USA on Sunday.

Saturday's match, which kicks off at 8 p.m. (ET), will be televised nationally on HDNet and a viewing party will be held at The Sky Box in Gahanna (161 Mill Street, 43230). It can also be heard live locally in English on The Brew @ 105.7 and on-line on TheCrew.com and MLSNet.com, with Neil Sika calling all the action, as well as in Spanish on Radio Sol WXOL 1550-AM.

Kansas City, fourth in the East and seventh overall with a 9-9-6 record (33 pts.), is coming off a bye week. It most recently played to a 1-1 tie at Houston on Sept. 1. The Crew and Wizards meet for the third and final time this season and for the second time at Arrowhead Stadium. The two teams have split the season series to date, with the Wizards winning the first meeting, 1-0, at Kansas City May 5, and the Crew picking up a 2-1 victory in their last meeting, June 20 at Crew Stadium. Columbus will be without both Guillermo Barros Schelotto and Frankie Hejduk on Saturday, as both will be serving one-game suspensions for caution accumulation.

The clubs' reserve teams will square off Sunday morning (Sept. 16) in a Reserve Division match at 11 a.m. (ET).

CREW FANS TO 'BLACK OUT' THE GALAXY AT CREW STADIUM SEPT. 30; LIMITED TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE

Fans attending the nearly sold-out game against the Galaxy are encouraged to show their support for the Black & Gold by wearing black attire to Crew Stadium that night. The "Black Out" is intended as a rallying point for Crew fans in attendance, while also providing an electric atmosphere for a match that is sure to have MLS playoff implications. While Crew fans are encouraged to don any piece of black attire for the September 30th contest, limited edition "09.30.07 Black Out" shirts will also be available for purchase that night in the Crew Gear merchandise store, while supplies last. Crew Stadium's permanent and auxiliary seating have been sold in their entirety for the match against Los Angeles, but standing-room-only tickets are still available.

SOCCER AID V RAISES MORE THAN $6,000 FOR CSF AND PRIMARY BENEFICIARY JDRF

Soccer Aid V concluded on Saturday (Sept. 8), when the winning bidders in the on-line auctions played a 30-minute scrimmage prior to the Crew's game vs. Chicago and were recognized in an on-field pregame ceremony. The program raised more than $6,000 this year for the Crew Soccer Foundation and its primary beneficiary, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), with the highest winning bid of $551.07 being brought in for Guillermo Barros Schelotto's No. 7 jersey. A unique annual fund-raiser, Soccer Aid capitalizes on soccer fans' passion for the sport to raise money for charity through the non-profit arm of the Crew. The autographed black game jerseys that were auctioned off featured a 'Soccer Aid V' patch and were worn by the Crew in its match vs. Aston Villa on July 28, marking the first time in the program's five-year history that has been incorporated.

CREW SUPPORTS 'BACK-TO-SCHOOL' HEALTH CARE COVERAGE CAMPAIGN AGAIN THIS YEAR

For the third straight year, the Crew and Major League Soccer, in conjunction with the Sports Philanthropy Project, are proud to support the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's efforts to connect eligible, uninsured kids with available health care coverage through the Covering Kids & Families Back-to-School Campaign. The Campaign is taking place in August and September and features thousands of events and activities across the country designed to demonstrate demand for the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and to get eligible uninsured children enrolled. Nine million children in America are uninsured. While 7 out of 10 of these kids are eligible for low-cost or free health care coverage, their parents may not realize their kids are eligible. The Crew helped spread the word at Saturday's (Sept. 8) game that many uninsured children in Ohio are eligible for low-cost or free health care coverage by running ads in game programs, playing a Back-to-School PSA and P.A. announcement, and distributing informational hand fans to families.
