Columbus Crew SC News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Nearly 275 Adventures for Wish Kids (AFWK) families (over 1,200 individuals) will enjoy an expense-paid trip to The Crew's game against the defending MLS Cup-champion San Jose Earthquakes this Saturday (May 18), thanks to the generous support of a team of sponsors.

During the Crew "adventure," the children and families will enjoy a picnic and pregame activities at Columbus Crew Stadium. During that time, many of the Crew players and staff will be available to meet the children. Following the picnic all of the children will be invited on the field for the "Parade of Champions" to help welcome the Crew players as they enter the stadium. AFWK will also be featured during a halftime video presentation.

The adventure was made possible by nearly $50,000 in financial and in-kind donations from The Crew, Pepsi, Aramark Sports Entertainment, the Ohio Expositions Commission, Dairy Queen, divine, Duffy Homes, Easton Town Center, Eastway Supplies, Firstar Bank, Garth Brooks' Teammates For Kids Foundation, Huntington Bank, Idea Integration, Leadership Columbus, The Longaberger Company, Lyon Video, National Century Financial Enterprises, Paramount's Kings Island, R. Dorsey + Company, Schottenstein, Zox and Dunn and Spirit Services Company.

Adventures For Wish Kids was founded in 1995 as not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing year-round, fun-filled and supportive group activities for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. AFWK helps these children and their families by providing opportunities to network with other families with similar problems and find the best way to deal with them; support each other emotionally; escape their problems for a short time and enjoy life in a more meaningful way. Unlike traditional wish-granting groups who plan a one-time wonderful wish, the AFWK children and their families enjoyed planned Adventures at least eight times a year. Through partnering with organizations such as The Crew, AFWK touched the lives of nearly 1,000 families in Columbus, Cincinnati and Dayton during 2001.
