Municipal is one of the top clubs in Guatemala and is currently fourth in the 10-team first division through 11 games. They captured the national league opening title in 2006 and became just the second club in national league history to obtain four consecutive national titles.
Municipal features former Crew midfielders Freddy Garcia and Mario Rodriguez, as well as former Los Angeles Galaxy star Guillermo "Pando" Ramirez. Pando scored the game-winning goal for L.A. in the 2005 MLS Cup.
Los Rojos (The Reds) are considered the most popular club in Guatemala and won its first national league title in 1942. They have since won a total of 24, the most by any club in the Guatemalan top division. The club's greatest achievement occurred in 1974 when they won the CONCACAF Champions' Cup and went on to play the Copa Interamericana, losing to Argentina's CA Independiente.
The Crew is 6-1-2 all-time in international exhibitions, including a 1-1 tie vs. Everton of the English Premier League on July 26.
