Columbus Crew SC News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus Crew Head Coach Greg Andrulis announced today that Jim Launder has been hired as an assistant coach. Launder (LAWN-der) will join former Crew great Robert Warzycha to fill out Andrulis' coaching staff.

"I am extremely excited to be a part of such a great organization and coaching staff," said Launder. "The Crew is a first-class operation and I couldn't ask for a better place to further my coaching career. I have known Greg for a long time and feel very comfortable working with him. I am also looking forward to working with the multitude of talented players on the team and will strive for the same goal as everyone else in the organization, to help bring an MLS Cup to Columbus."

Launder, the former head coach of the University of Wisconsin and the University of Dayton, will join The Crew in January. He guided the Badgers to the 1995 NCAA Division I championship.

"I am thrilled that Jim is now an official member of the Crew coaching staff," said Andrulis. "We have known each other for a long time and I know what a tremendous coach he is. He has been a real asset to both me and the organization over the last couple of years, on a volunteer basis, and I am certain that the full-time addition of his expertise and experience to our staff will be very positive."

Launder was most recently an assistant coach for the 2002 A-League champion Milwaukee Rampage, the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association Director of Coaching, the Region II Head Coach for the Boys Olympic Development Program, a U.S. Soccer National Staff Coach, and a head coach for numerous club teams in Wisconsin.

"We are very fortunate to be able to add a coach of Jim's pedigree to our staff," said Crew President/General Manager Jim Smith. "He has had great success everywhere he's been and brings that track record with him to Columbus. Add to that the fact that he and Greg have a very good, established relationship - along with the presence of Robert Warzycha and his proven background - and I am excited about the makeup of our staff."
