Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Crew today accepted a transfer offer from Club Deportivo Universidad Catolica (Chile) for defender Marcos Gonzalez. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Gonzalez, 27, spent two seasons in Black & Gold, appearing in 48 games and producing one goal and one assist. The native of Santiago, Chile, returns home to play for one of his country's most popular and storied clubs.
"Marcos Gonzalez has been a solid contributor to our team over the past two seasons," Crew General Manager Mark McCullers said. "Catolica was very anxious to add Marcos to their roster for their upcoming run in the Copa Libertadores and made an offer that we could not pass up and likely would not have seen again. While we have lost a very capable defender, we have added significant resources to our club that will be reinvested in our continuing effort to improve this team."
The Columbus Crew is Ohio's Major League Soccer club, anchoring a diverse sports and entertainment enterprise. One of the league's Charter Members, it will open its 13th season overall and tenth in first-of-its-kind Columbus Crew Stadium on Saturday, March 29, when it plays host to Eastern Conference-rival Toronto FC.
