Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
GRAND PRAIRIE, TX-The Gary South Shore RailCats had an early wakeup call in Texas on Wednesday with Dustin Crenshaw wide awake leading the RailCats to a 7-3 win over the Grand Prairie AirHogs. Crenshaw behind a complete game effort helped the Cats take the series 2-1 and finished the road trip at 4-2 their third consecutive winning series away from US Steel Yard.
The RailCats picked up a run each in the first and second innings in classic RailCat fashion off of AirHog starter Brandon Bargas (0-5). In both frames the Cats got a man aboard and moved them up a step then had a fielder's choice off the bats of Josh Romanski and Cody Bishop to bring each runner home for a 2-0 lead.
The AirHogs tied the game in the bottom of the second getting a two run homerun by Andress Rodriguez off of Crenshaw. Crenshaw then settled in and worked the next five innings scoreless on the way to his second complete ball game of the year.
The game was tied for only a few minutes until Ryan Babineau hit a solo homerun down the left field line to give the RailCats a 3-2 lead in the top of the third. Gary would manufacture another run in the top of the fourth getting a sac fly from Danny Pulfer scoring Derek Smith who singled with one out two batters before for a 4-2 advantage. In the fifth Craig Maddox extended his hitting streak to 19 games with an RBI single to make it 5-2 RailCats.
Gary added another run in the eighth with Derek Smith who went 4 for 4 adding an RBI and one more to close it out in the ninth on a wild pitch. Dustin Crenshaw allowed another run in the eighth but sat down the AirHogs 1-2-3 in the ninth to pick up his fourth win.
The RailCats are off on Thursday before opening a seven game homestand Friday at US Steel Yard. The Lincoln Saltdogs will make their first visit to NWI for the 7:10pm opener. The RailCats will send RHP Stephen Hiscock to the hill while Lincoln will send RHP Nick Green to start the game.
