Moncton, NB â Goaltender Corey Crawford blocked all 34 shots he faced to lead the Moncton Wildcats to a 2 â 0 victory over the visiting Quebec Remparts before 3,308 at the Moncton Coliseum on Thursday. The shutout was Crawford's second consecutive, after blanking the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 1 â 0 on Sunday, to improve his season record to 5 â 1 â 1.
Crawford now leads the league in shutouts, with two, and improves his lifetime record to seven. Charles Bergeron opened the scoring with his first goal of the season and what was to be the game winner, at 7:19 of the first period, on a set-up from recently returned Luke Pelham and Christian Gaudet. The 1 â 0 lead stood up until mid-way through the third period, when Adam Pineault scored the insurance marker, his fourth goal of the season, with line-mate Steve Bernier adding the lone assist.
Moncton went 0 for 5 on the powerplay, while Quebec was 0 for 8. After being outshot 11 â 9 in the first period, Moncton held a commanding 17 â 10 advantage in the second and 22 â 13 margin in the third, for a 48 â 34 total. Goaltender Maxime Joyal blocked 45 of 47 shots he faced to see his record fall to 2 â 2 â 1. The game's three stars were #1 â Maxime Joyal, #2 â Adam Pineault and #3 â Corey Crawford.
Moncton improves their record to 6 â 2 â 1 (13 pts) to remain in second place in the Atlantic Division and in a two-way tie for third place overall. Quebec remains in third place in the Eastern Division and in a tie for seventh overall, with a record of 3 â 2 â 2 (10 pts).
Moncton continues its home stand on Sunday when they host the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in a 4 pm contest at the Coliseum.
