Hickory Crawdads News Release
Hickory, NC - The Hickory Crawdads used a four-run eighth inning to make it close on Sunday afternoon, but an Asheville flurry in the ninth propelled the Tourists to an 11-6 win against Hickory. The loss for Hickory, in front of 1,617 fans at the sun-drenched matinee, gives the Crawdads their second split series in as many openings this season.
Tucker Mitchell followed his multi-hit performance from Saturday with a three-hit encore on Sunday, including his third home run of the year.
The eighth inning rally was spurred on by a bases-clearing double from Quincy Scott, who would later score on a wild pitch to close the deficit to 6-5.
For Asheville, Morganton native Cam Fisher homered twice in the contest, including a three-run shot in the ninth to close out the scoring for the Tourists.
The Crawdads will take Monday off before heading to Rome, Georgia and Greenville, South Carolina for a 12-game road trip. The Crawdads Radio Network will carry the games from Greenville on May 11 and 12 as part of the nearly 90-game broadcast schedule this season.
The Crawdads will return home on May 14th with a 6pm game against the Greensboro Grasshoppers, High-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
