Hickory Crawdads News Release

HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads strung together three consecutive innings of at least one run scored to come back and defeat the Kannapolis Intimidators, 7-4, before 1,818 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on a Saturday night. RF Jared Prince extended his hitting streak to 18 games, the longest of any Crawdad this season.

After both teams scored three runs apiece in the third inning, Kannapolis reclaimed the lead with a run in the fourth to go ahead, 4-3. Hickory (60-44, 20-14) then came back again in the bottom of the fifth inning against Intimidators starter RHP Ryan Buch. With two outs and Prince on at second base, LF Guillermo Pimentel hit an infield single to 3B Juan Silverio, whose errant throw to first allowed Prince to chug around third and score the tying run, 4-4.

The Crawdads claimed their first lead of the ballgame in the bottom of the sixth. C Leonel De Los Santos led off the frame with a double and advanced to third on a groundout by 3B Joe Bonadonna. After 2B Travis Adair was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners with one out, CF Jared Bolden skied a sacrifice fly to left field that was dropped by LF Kyle Colligan, allowing De Los Santos to come in from third and give the 'Dads a 5-4 advantage over Kannapolis (46-58, 15-20).

Hickory added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh. With Pimentel on at first and one out, SS Jonathan Roof lined a double to right field. RF Ryan Hamme's attempted throw to third hit Pimentel in the back of the leg and scooted away from Silverio, allowing Pimentel to score. De Los Santos followed with his second double of the night, plating Roof to account for the eventual final score of 7-4.

Crawdads starter RHP Braden Tullis surrendered four runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out four in three innings. The relief corps of RHP Johan Yan, LHP Joseph Ortiz, and RHP Tyler Tufts dealt the final five scoreless innings. Ortiz (3-1, 1.24 ERA) earned the win with Tufts notching his seventh save, inducing a game-ending double play in the ninth. RHP Pat Schatz took the loss for the Intimidators.
