Crawdads clip Catfish 6-5 for second straight

Columbus, GA - The Columbus Catfish (16-16) knocked out 13 hits Tuesday at Golden Park but lost to the Hickory Crawdads (16-16) by a score of 6-5. In each of the first two games this series the Crawdads have homered twice on the way to victory.

Hickory scored once in the second inning and again in the fourth for a 2-0 lead before Columbus tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. 2B Travis Denker led off with a solo home run to left field, his fourth of the season. C Tony Harper made it back-to-back blasts when he stroked his sixth shot to right field.

The Crawdads quickly regained the lead with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Another run in the sixth made the lead 6-2.

The Catfish rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning. RF Chris Jensen plated Harper on a line drive single to left field. 3B Shane Justis grounded into a force out at second base that scored DH David Sutherland. With two outs Justis raced home on a double to center field by CF Bridger Hunt. Both teams went scoreless in the last three frames as Hickory held on.

RHP Dave Horlacher (1-3) gave up six runs on eight hits and one walk over six innings. All three scoreless innings of relief for Columbus were thrown by RHP Nate Hochgesang, who did not allow a hit or a walk. Starter RHP Brad Lincoln (1-1) earned the win for Hickory while RHP Justin Vaclavik got his eighth win with a scoreless ninth inning.

Columbus 1B Jason Mooneyham doubled in the fifth inning to reach base for the 43rd consecutive game. Harper went 3-for-5 while SS Ivan DeJesus, Sutherland and Hunt each collected two safeties.
