Cracker-Cats lose to Flyers

The Edmonton Cracker-Cats losing skid has now reached 5 games, with a hard fought 6-7 loss to the East Division leading Schaumburg Flyers at TELUS Field on Monday night.

The Flyers scored 2 runs in the 1st inning, and sent 8 batters to the plate and scoring 4 runs in the 3rd inning. They added runs in the 4th and 6th inning to key the victory.

Edmonton left hander Geoff White 2-2, pitched 8 innings, allowing all 7 runs. 6 runs were earned with 4 walks and 2 hit batters in taking the loss. Schaumburg DH Chris Weekly went 3 for 4 with a 3 run homer and a total of 5 RBI's, including a sacrifice fly.

Edmonton right fielder Jeremy Ware belted out his 6th homerun, hitting a 2 run shot in the 2nd inning. Short stop Ashley Freeman added a solo blast in the 3rd. The Cracker-Cats sent 8 batters to the plate in the 6th, scoring 3 more runs.

Schaumburg south paw, Rick Dehert, 3-2, allowed all the runs going a 6 inning distance to record the win. A submarining right hander, Nate Cotton, pitched a 3 batter 9th, with 2 strikeouts, to record his 8th save.

With the win, the Flyers improve to 20 and 10. The Cracker-Cats fall to 13 and 17.

A pair of right handers will be the mound match up on Tuesday night. Brett Lawson, 3-1 with a 3.98 ERA, for Edmonton, and Raymond Jenkins, 3-0 with a 2.73 ERA, will pitch for Schaumburg.
