PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (May 14, 2012) - The Charlotte Stone Crabs blitzed the Fort Myers Miracle for 13 runs on 16 hits in a blowout, 13-1, at Charlotte Sports Park on Monday night.
Charlotte blasted back-to-back homeruns in a six run sixth inning. Derek Dietrich smashed a two-run blast off of Miracle reliever Jose Gonzalez. Riccio Torrez followed with a solo homer to left field. The Stone Crabs would load the bases and three hitters later Cody Rogers delivered the knockout blow with a three-run triple.
In the second inning, the Stone Crabs scored three runs on four hits to take the lead. Dietrich led off with a triple down the first base line. After Miracle starter Madison Boer struck out Torrez, Stone Crab first baseman Phil Wunderlich singled into center field to plate the game's first run.
Robby Price then singled through the left side to put runners on the corners. Boer would retire Robi Estrada before allowing a two-out, two-run single into right field to Cody Rogers on an 0-2 count.
With an early advantage, Charlotte starter Grayson Garvin earned his first win with six strong innings allowing just one run and striking out seven. Fort Myers only run off Garvin (1-3) came in the top of the fourth. Jairo Perez led off with a triple into the right field corner. Lance Ray followed with a ground out that plated Perez for his team leading 25th run batted in.
For the second consecutive game, Minnesota Twins pitcher Kyle Waldrop threw a scoreless inning on a MLB rehabilitation appearance.
Fort Myers (15-22) will return to Hammond Stadium for the first time in seven days to finish the series with the Stone Crabs (17-19) with a pair of games. First pitch on Tuesday is schedule for 7:05 p.m.
