Coyotes Win Thriller Against Nemesis

EDINBURG, TX- After five scoreless innings, the Edinburg Coyotes rallied from behind to take Game 1 of a three-game series against their ULB nemesis, the Harlingen Whitewings, beating them 4-2 Tuesday night at Harlingen Field.

It was a pitching a duo between Coyotes starting pitcher Aaron Guerra and Whitewings pitcher Jorge Lugo. Both pitchers were able to throw five scoreless innings as Guerra ended the night with five strikeouts while Lugo ended with seven.

But the scoreless drought came to an end for the Whitewings (2-5) as Miguel Peguero came into score from a shot to centerfield from Kevin Griffin. David Cardona then brought in Ryan Fox from third after he reached on a fielder's choice.

The lead was short lived after the Coyotes (5-2) rallied back to score two runs of their own in the top of the seventh. During the inning, Patrick Gaylord was able to get on base after he was walked by Alex Gett. Gaylord advanced to third after a double to right field from Nick Aranda. Gaylord scored when Angelo Fermin grounded out to the short stop but was able to cut the lead in half. Aranda then scored on a pass ball to even the score at two.

The Coyotes put the game away after Gary Roche hit a two run single into center field bringing in Jermaine Williams from third and Fermin from second.

Coyotes closer Julio Castro struck out the last three batters in the bottom of the ninth to close out the night. Coyotes ended the night with five hits with three RBI's and Whitewings ended the night with seven hits and two RBI's. Miguel Martinez picked up the win for the Coyotes as he struck out two and allowed no runs in two innings. Caleb Balbuena got the loss and Castro got his second save of the season.

Coyotes will take on the Whitewings in Game 2 at 11:05 a.m. tomorrow at Harlingen Field.
