Broncos slow start costs them in loss to San Angelo

San Angelo, TX-The Laredo Broncos got a poor start from Henry Lozado as they fell to the San Angelo Colts by a score of 11-4 at Foster Field on Tuesday night. The Broncos continue with their first road series of the 2008 season with game 2 against the Colts on Wednesday morning at 10:30 am. For more info call (956)-722-BASE (2273).

The Broncos threatened early putting runners on 1st and 2nd with no one out. But Luany Sanchez hit a line smash that was caught by Colts starter Frank James and he threw to first to get Dwayne White and then the first baseman Andres Rodriguez threw to 2nd base to double off Mark Lewis to complete the triple play.

San Angelo would take advantage of Laredo starter Henry Lozado's ineffectiveness. Lozado walked leadoff man Tyrone Pendergrass and then after a fly out walked Bryan Frichter and Jason Crosland. Benny Craig then singled knocking in a run. Then after a strikeout Jose Torres doubled in two runs and that was followed by a 2 run single by Wyn Diggs and the Colts jumped out to an early 5 run lead.

The Broncos would get 1 back in the top of the 3rd inning. After Santiago Guerrero reached base on an error, he advanced on a wild pitch. Then Anthony Bennett hit an infield single with Guerrero moving to 3rd. Mark Lewis then grounded into a fielder's choice knocking in Guerrero to make the score 5-1.

In the bottom of the 3rd the Colts got to Lozado again. After an one out walk Wynn Diggs doubled to knock in the runner. Then Diggs scored on a single by Pendergrass. After John Anderson hit a single Bryan Frichter came up with the big blow a 3 run home run to make the score 10-1 after 3 innings.

Laredo starter Henry Lozado was chased from the game after home run going 2 2/3 giving up 10 runs on 7 hits and walking 6.

The Broncos offense started showing some signs of life in the 5th inning. Santiago Guerrero hit a one out double and then scored on a Anthony Bennett single to cut the lead to 8. Then in the 6th inning Laredo added two more runs. With one out Luany Sanchez singled and then went to 3rd on a double by Edgard Clemente. Sanchez would then score on a single by Jose Salas. Salas would then get picked off of first base but Clemente with some good base running scored on to play to make the score 10-4.

The Colts would get 1 run back in bottom of the 6th. Jason Crosland would double with one out. He would then score on a single by Andres Rodriguez to get an 11-4 lead.

Matt Bauman pitched solid in relief of Lozado pitching 3 1/3 innings giving up the one run on 4 hits and striking out 2.

The Broncos would threaten in the top of the 7th as they loaded the bases with 2 outs and Jose Salas up but he hit into a fielders choice to end the threat. The Broncos would not do anything else the rest of the game as they fell by a score of 14-1.

Picking up the victory for the Colts was starter Frank James who went 5 2/3 giving up 4 runs on hits and striking out 1.
