Central Valley Coyotes News Release

(Fresno, Calif.) - The Central Valley Coyotes (2-2) and the Everett Hawks (0-4) will meet this Sunday May 6 at 3 P.M. in Everett, Washington at the Everett Event Center. It will be the second meeting of 2007 between the two teams. In their first meeting this season, on April 7th, the Coyotes dominated the Hawks 74-31 at Selland Arena in Fresno.

The Coyotes will be entering Everett with the sixth ranked scoring offense in the league putting up an average of 56.5 points a game after beating previously unbeaten Bakersfield (3-1) last weekend 61-42. In four games rookie quarterback Clay Groefsema has thrown 23 touchdowns earning a passer rating of 115.1, currently ranking him 7th in the league. The Coyotes are also ranked first in red zone offense converting on 94.7% of their red zone scoring opportunities.

On the other hand, the Hawks are a team in disarray, losing their star receiver and former Coyote LaMonte Jones (WR) in last Monday night's loss to the Tri-Cities Fever. Jones productions will be sorely missed as he has accounted for 6 of the Hawks 20 offensive touchdowns this season, only receiver Phil Goodman (WR) has matched those numbers.

The Hawks offense has averaged only 33.5 points a game while giving up 63.25 points a game. Stability at Quarterback is an issue so far this season; both Ben Bowling and Jason Campbell have spent time behind center in each of the four games. Both have combined for a passer rating of 85.5 ranking them 25th in the league of 30.

The Coyotes defense, under the direction of new Defensive Coordinator Derrick Chachere, has shown signs of improvement each week. In four games, the defense has recorded 8 sacks, 38 pass break ups, and are ranked 5th in red zone defense. Leading the way on the defensive line are second year players Doug Langenfeld (DL) with 4 sacks and Donyell Booker (DL) with 3. The secondary is lead by Alonzo Corbett (DB) with 16.5 tackles and 6 pass break-ups and Tierre Sams (DB) 12.5 tackles and 6 pass break ups; both in only three games. The recent addition of AFL veteran Aleric Clark should help an already solid defensive unit.

If the Coyotes pull off a sweep of the Hawks this season they will have a 5-0 record against them, having swept them last season in three games. For the Hawks a win would give them their first win against the Coyotes, their first for the season, and also the first win for Hawks first year Head Coach Cedric Walker. In 2006 Walker was the Defensive Coordinator for the Blitz.

This game will be broadcast on 1430 ESPN radio at 3 P.M. on Sunday, join Guy Haberman and Bryan Whitmore as they bring you all the hard hitting action. The Coyote will return home on May 12, 2007 for their first ever meeting with the Boise Burn, for this game the Coyotes will be teaming up with the Central Valley branch of Susan G. Komen for the Cure to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer. Visit the special link on the Coyotes Home page at www.centralvalleycoyotes.com, proceeds will be donated to Susan G.
