
Big fourth lifts Steeldogs over Copperheads

Birmingham, Ala. - The Alabama Steeldogs scored 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to defeat the Texas Copperheads, 58-27, Thursday night at the BJCC Arena.
Steeldogs quarterback Mitch Tanney led Alabama offensively, completing 22-of-33 passes for 283 yards, seven touchdowns and no interceptions.
"Mitch performed well under some tough pressure tonight," Alabama Steeldogs Head Coach Ron Selesky said. "He stood in the pocket and took some hits, but he got the ball where it needed to be."
Texas' Jarrod Fuller brought the Copperheads within a score with 43 second left in the first half by returning a Nick Hayes missed field goal 50-yards for the touchdown. Hayes was able to redeem the miss, nailing a 32-yard field goal as time expired to give Alabama a 24-14 lead at the half.
Jarrod Fuller led Texas offensively, finishing with 10 catches for 123 yards and one score. He also returned six kickoffs for 114 yards.
Eric Scott stood tall for the Steeldogs on defense, finishing the game with 4.0 total tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble, one blocked kick and a pass defended.
The Steeldogs continue their two-game home stand next Saturday as the host the Quad City Steamwheelers (3-2) at the BJCC Arena at 7 p.m. Texas (1-4) returns home on Friday night to host the Laredo Lobos (0-4).
