Coyotes complete four game sweep of WhiteWings

HARLINGEN, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes (28-33) extended their winning streak to five games after they defeated the Harlingen WhiteWings (17-43) 4-2 Sunday night at Harlingen Field. With the win, the Coyotes completed the four game sweep of the 'Wings.

Miguel Martinez (5-3) picked up his fifth win of the year after pitching six innings allowing, two runs on five hits, and striking out seven. Martinez worked out of a jam in the bottom of the first inning, where the WhiteWings had runners and first and second with no outs, keeping the game tied at zero.

The offense came to the aid of Martinez in the top of the second inning. After hitting a grand slam in the previous game, Eric Gonzalez continued swinging a hot bat as he hit a two run home run to left field that gave the Coyotes a 2-0 advantage. The Coyotes added another run after Angelo Fermin hit an RBI single into right field that scored Mayobanex Santana from second which extended the lead to 3-0.

The WhiteWings answered back with a home run of their own in the bottom of the second inning. Trey Hendricks hit a solo home run, his first of the season, that made the score 3-1.

The Coyotes added to their lead in the top of the fourth inning. After two outs, Santana hit a triple to deep left center field and then he came in to score on an RBI single by Amado German to take the lead to 4-1.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Trey Hendricks hit his second extra base hit of the night. He hit a double down the first base line that scored Joel Gonzalez from second, which cut the lead to two.

The Coyotes' bullpen did not allow any hits or runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings of the ballgame preserving the win for Martinez. Luke Prihoda picked up his fourth save of the season after working a perfect ninth inning.

The Edinburg Coyotes begin a three game series against the Alexandria Aces Monday night in Alexandria. James Mondesir (0-1) will make his second start of the season against former University of Texas Pan American pitcher Chad Linder (3-3).
