Laredo Broncos News Release

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos got a great pitching performance and timely hitting as they beat the Alexandria Aces by a score of 7-0 at Veterans Field on Sunday night. The Broncos continue their 7 game home stand with the start of a 3 game series against the San Angelo Colts on Monday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

Both starting pitchers would be in complete control thru the first 5 innings. In his 5 innings of work Broncos starter Andy Schon would give up 0 runs on 2 hits. He walked only 2 batters and struck out 6. The Aces starter Alexis Sosa was just as good. In his first 5 innings, he gave up 0 runs on 2 hits as well. He walked only 2 batters and struck out 5. The game would be scoreless after 5 innings.

The Broncos would finally get on the board in the 6th inning against Alexis Sosa. Anthony Bennett led off the inning with a bunt single. He then went to 2nd on a passed ball. Arnoldo Ponce then reached base on an error by shortstop Eric Gonzalez which allowed Bennett to go to 3rd. Luany Sanchez then hit into a fielder's choice. Bennett was thrown out at home, but Ponce went to 2nd and Sanchez was safe at 1st. Edgard Clemente would single in Ponce and move Sanchez to 3rd. Dwayne White followed with a rbi single of his own scoring Sanchez and giving Laredo the 2-0 lead.

The Broncos offense would bust the game open in the 7th inning. Ivan Reyes lead off the inning with a single and then went to 2nd when Josue Gonzalez hit a bunt single. Steven Wright would then put down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Anthony Bennett then delivered a 2 run single scoring both Reyes and Gonzalez. Arnoldo Ponce would follow that with a walk. Luany Sanchez then hit what looked to be an inning ending double play, but the throw to 1st got away from Jose Umbria which allowed Bennett to score and Sanchez to go to 2nd. The very next batter Edgard Clemente would really make that error look bad as he hit a 2 run home run, his 11th of the season. That would give the Broncos a 7-0 lead after 7 innings.

That would be more than enough for Andy Schon as he would pitch a complete game shutout, and the Broncos snapped their 4 game losing streak, by a score of 7-0. This is Schon's 2nd complete game shutout of the season. In 9 innings he gave up 0 runs on 4 hits. He walked 4 and struck out 8 batters.

The Broncos scored 7 runs on 10 hits and committed 0 errors, while the Aces scored 0 runs on 4 hits and committed 2 errors.

The Broncos now improve to 30-33 on the season and still have a 1 game lead for the last playoff spot as Edinburg won as well..
