Coyotes' 2007 Second Round Pick MacLean Joins Rampage

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage today announced that left wing Brett MacLean will report to the team after signing an entry-level contract with the Phoenix Coyotes earlier today. His contract begins with the 2008-09 season.

MacLean, 19, was selected by the Coyotes in the second round (32nd overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. The Port Elgin, Ontario native led the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with 61 goals in 61 games while playing for the Oshawa Generals, finished second in the league in points (119) and ninth in assists (58). He also leaves the OHL currently ranking 11th (tied) among top scorers with 16 points (5 goals, 11 assists) in 15 playoff games this season.

Named OHL Player of the Month for November 2007 after recording 33 points (22g, 11a) in only 12 games, the 6-foot-2, 197-pound MacLean earned a second Player of the Month honor in January after tallying 30 points (10g, 20a) in 14 games.

MacLean was one of 40 draft-eligible prospects selected to participate in the 2007 Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects Game. The CHL is comprised of the three major junior leagues in Canada including the OHL, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and Western Hockey League (WHL).

MacLean spent four seasons in the OHL and was a two-time Eastern Conference All-Star. In 245 career OHL games with Erie and Oshawa, he collected 288 points (131g, 157a) and 151 penalty minutes (PIM). He also recorded 33 points (12g, 21a) and 27 PIM in 28 playoff career playoff games.
