
Courtney, Effinger and Pszenyczny All Nominated for CHL Awards

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced Wednesday the finalists for the CHL Most Valuable Player, Most Outstanding Goaltender, Most Outstanding Defenseman and Rookie of the Year awards. Mavericks' rookie Andrew Courtney (Rookie of the Year), defenseman Dave Pszenyczny (Most Outstanding Defenseman) and goaltender Charlie Effinger (Most Outstanding Goaltender) were each named one of five finalists in their respective category.
"We are very excited for these players," said Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman. "They each mean so much to our team and are having outstanding individual seasons. Each one of them is an exceptional person and role model for the rest of the locker room. All three of these players would gladly give up any personal success in order to help their teammates achieve the goals we have set as an organization for this season. We wish each of them the best of luck in receiving this great league honor."
Courtney, nominated for Rookie of the Year, has 47 points (24-2347) in 53 games played for the Mavericks. He is second in the CHL among rookies with 24 goals and first with five game-winning goals. Courtney also ranks second in shots among rookies with 171, and his +15 plus/minus rating is third among first-year players. The other finalists are Quad City forward Jared Brown, Evansville goalie Bryan Gillis, Texas goalie Mark Guggenberger and Tulsa forward Mike Ullrich.
Effinger has been a rock in net for the Mavericks this season playing nearly every minute of every game since late December. The fourth-year pro tied the CHL record earning goalie of the week four times this season. He ranks first in the CHL in minutes played (2,543:36), first in saves (1,356), 10th in the CHL with a 2.67 goals-against average, second with 27 wins and third with a .923 save percentage. Other nominees are Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Evansville's Bryan Gillis, Texas' Mark Guggenberger and Wichita's Adam Russo.
Pszenyczny is one of three Mavericks to play in every game this season and leads all Mavericks' defensemen in scoring with 28 points on 12 goals and 16 assists. He also leads the Mavericks with 103 penalty minutes. His 12 goals are ranked fourth amongst CHL defensemen, and his two shorthanded goals are tied for first among blue liners. Pszenyczny also has 13 special teams points (5-813) which ranks fifth on the Mavericks.
