Courchesne and Paul Re-Sign

Johnstown, PA- Johnstown Chiefs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Toby O'Brien announced today that the team has re-signed defenseman P.L. Courchesne and left wing Richard Paul.

Courchesne, 23, had 17 goals, including 10 power play markers and 39 points in 70 games for the Chiefs last season. The 6'1, 210 LBS native of Nicolet, Quebec joined the Chiefs in 2002 where he scored 14 goals and 28 points in 68 games. He was named to the 2003 Eastern Conference all-star team that season. Prior to turning professional, Courchesne played five seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for the Sherbrooke Beavers.

"P.L. is one of the best offensive minded defenseman in the league. Last season, his defensive game improved dramatically. He will be a key contributor to the team this season," said O'Brien.

Paul, 23, had two goals, six points, 182 PIM and team high 24 major penalties last season in 67 games for the Chiefs. The 6'3, 230 LBS native of Halifax, Nova Scotia split 2002-03 with the Dayton Bombers and Long Beach Ice Dogs. In 20 games with Dayton he had one assist and 34 PIM. In 28 games with Long Beach he had two goals and four points, with 51 PIM. Paul played three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League where he saw action in 123 games, scoring 2 goals, 6 points and 614 PIM.

"Richard plays a big role on this team. His locker room and on ice presence is something that is very important to the team. Last year he was able to give the team a big boost," O'Brien added.
