April 28, 2022 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
North Carolina Courage News Release
CARY, NC - Taking a break from the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup, the North Carolina Courage hit the road once again to kick off the regular season against Angel City FC on Friday, April 29 at 10:30 p.m. ET. The match will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network, and streamed live on Twitch (internationally).
Last Time Out: For the second time (2020: 4-0-0; 2022: 3-0-3), the Courage have gone undefeated through all games of Challenge Cup group play, with the final match of that stint ending in a 2-2 draw against the Washington Spirit. In the final minute of the first half, the Courage were awarded a penalty kick and with it a chance to level the score after the Spirit's Hatch had struck first. Debinha took the kick, and with no hesitation, the Brazilian international converted the penalty, burying a shot in the upper 90. With that goal, Debinha became the first and only player in Challenge Cup history to score a goal in four consecutive matches during the tournament. Later, in the 53rd minute, Malia Berkely collected her first NWSL goal to put the North Carolina side back in the driver's seat. Hatch would claim her brace late in the half to seal the draw.
Additionally, the North Carolina Courage waived 2022 draftee Kaitlin Fregulia this week. Fregulia, a Long Beach State alumna, sat out the preseason on the 45-day injured list.

North Carolina Courage - #9 Kerolin Nicoli
Forward Kerolin Nicoli signed with the club in January 2022, but was only finally able to join the squad in April, hitching a ride to North Carolina's game at NJ/NY Gotham FC on April 3 to make her club/NWSL debut. Since then she has appeared in three matches, earning her first start in last week's match vs. Washington, and has totalled 145 minutes played. Kerolin has also been an instrumental part of the Courage offense, creating key chances in each game and drawing the penalty that led to Debinha's goal in the last match.
Angel City FC - #23 Christen Press
Forward Christen Press has long been a USWNT fan-favorite, but she has also quickly found her way into the hearts of ACFC fans, especially after last week's Challenge Cup outing against the Portland Thorns saw her score the deciding goal in the club's first ever win. Known for her offensive prowess, Press has netted 45 goals and 11 assists through six seasons in the NWSL.
Up Next: The Courage clinched their spot in the Challenge Cup semifinals with a 2-2 draw last Saturday against the Washington Spirit. North Carolina will return to Cup action when they take on the Kansas City Current on Wednesday, May 4 at 8:30 p.m. ET. The current Challenge Cup standings across the league can be found here. The match will be streamed live on Paramount+ and Twitch (internationally).
