March 10, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release
DAYTON, OH - The Dayton Gems and country singer Austin Hicks have finalized plans to have Hicks perform the National Anthem on Friday, March 25, prior to the Gems game against Quad City.
The performance will be Hicks' first at a Dayton Gems game. Hicks will also have a pregame concert before the game as part of the Dayton Gems' pregame tailgating party. The concert will be free to fans and will include inflatable structures and face-painters for kids to enjoy.
"It feels real good to have the Dayton Gems welcome me back to Dayton," said Hicks. "It's nice to come back to my hometown to perform."
So far, the 20-year-old has sung on many stages throughout the country. He has performed in nine different states and Washington, D.C. On September 11, 2010, Hicks was given the honor of performing in the Nation's Capital.
He has also performed at the annual Balloon Festival in Albuquerque, NM. When Hicks went out on stage to perform, there were more than 800,000 people at the festival.
In addition to Hicks, the Dayton Gems will have several other guests on hand that evening.
The Gems will also be honoring several former professional hockey players who played in Dayton. Currently, the Gems have 11 former players scheduled to appear at the game.
This will be the first time since the Gems returned to Dayton in 2009 that players from different eras will reunite in the city they used to play in.
All players will be honored during the first intermission of the Gems game against the Quad City Mallards at 7:35 p.m. Players will be in Court 1 of Hara Arena prior to the game and during the second intermission to mingle with fans and sign autographs.
The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
