Countdown to Face-Off
April 18, 2009 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Switching venues, the Kalamazoo Wings and Fort Wayne Komets will head to Wings Stadium for game two of the Best-of-Seven Turner Cup Semi-Finals. Defending home ice last night, the Komets took game one with a 3-1 victory over the K-Wings at Allen County Memorial Coliseum.
Looking to pull even in the series, the K-Wings return to a building where they have had much success. During the regular season, Kalamazoo tied Muskegon for the most home victories in the IHL with 24 at Wings Stadium. On the season, the K-Wings were 4-3-1-0 versus the Komets at Wings Stadium.
While the K-Wings had success at home, the Komets were just as comfortable on the road. Fort Wayne led the league in road wins with 25 during the regular season. The Komets' Nick Boucher stole the show in game one stopping 41 of the 42 shots he face to secure the win last night.

A Different Outcome
Last night, the K-Wings led after the first period and lost the game, which is a trend that was much different during the regular season. During the regular season, the K-Wings were 24-2-1-0 when leading after one period of play (14-1-0-0 at home; 10-1-1-0 on the road).
Earning Their Stripes
Before last night's contest, seven K-Wings (Rick Cleaver, Trent Daavettila, Shea Hamilton, Rob Jarvis, Tommy Lange, Jordan Little, Chris Trick) didn't have pro playoff experience. With Hamilton scratched yesterday, the remaining six did receive their first taste of postseason play.
Half Full
Last Wednesday, the IHL named Rick Cleaver, Rob Jarvis and Tommy Lange to their All-Rookie Team, which means half of the team was comprised of K-Wings. The team was selected by general managers, coaches and media members from around the league.
Home Sweet Home
During the regular season, Kalamazoo, with 24 wins, finished the year tied with Muskegon for the most home victories in the league. Wings Stadium has also been kind in the playoffs to the K-Wings, who are riding a four-game home playoff win streak, which dates back to the 2006-07 season.
