
Vernarksy and Tetrault Key Effort in Exciting Game Two

PORT HURON, MI - An exciting, chippy, see-saw battle ended in the Icehawks evening the series at one game apiece behind the one-two punch of Kris Vernarsky and Daniel Tetrault Saturday night at McMorran Arena.
The momentum shifted in the Icehawks favor early at 3:44 in the first period when Vernarsky tapped in a rebound off a rocket shot by Tetrault. Derek Patrosso also assisted.
Tetrault and Vernarksy continued to build steam as the two hooked up for a power play goal at 10:45 in the first. Vernarksy hit the streaking Tetrault as he rushed into the play deep in the zone and fired a one-timer behind Lumberjack goalie Clayton Pool for a 2-0 lead. Ian Turner also assisted.
Muskegon fired back and jumped to within one goal just 1:42 into the second period after a power play blast by Robin Bouchard scorched past Icehawks goalie Ryan Mior. Luke Stauffacher assisted. Shortly after, the Jacks tied the game at two when Robin Bouchard found the back of the net. John DiPace assisted.
The topsy-turvy game was again in control by the Icehawks after Paul Esdale netted the puck behind Pool, with assists by Tab Lardner and Turner. Nick Lindberg added another goal to make it 4-2 at 15:14 of the second. The power play goal was assisted by Steve Rymsha and Bryan Smolinski.
True to the back and forth nature of the game, the Lumberjacks snuck a goal through the pads of Mior on a tricky shot by DiPace, closing the gap to just one goal entering the third period. Shaun Fisher and Darryl McArthur assisted.
Port Huron added another goal to make it 5-3 at the 9:22 mark of the third period when Rymsha rifled a shot home, with assists from Esdale and Lindberg.
Port Huron's Mior made 18 saves on 21 shots in the win, while Muskegon's Pool stopped 49 on 54 shots in the loss.
The series now shifts to Muskegon for Games 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Wednesday. Game Five will be played on Friday, April 24 in Port Huron.
