Kalamazoo Wings News Release

The two top teams in the Eastern Conference are squaring off for the final time in the regular season. This season, Kalamazoo is 5-5-1 against Muskegon and has won three of their last four encounters over the Fury.

Kalamazoo is currently second in the east and fourth overall in the UHL. There's more at stake for Kalamazoo than just the season series. With five games remaining, Kalamazoo needs to win out their slate and have Muskegon drop the remainder of their games to take the Eastern Conference.

Besides trying to wrap up the conference title, Muskegon is looking to inch closer to the Tarry Cup. With five games remaining, Muskegon has 102 points, which places them four points ahead of Fort Wayne and eight points in front of Rockford in the league.

Nearing a Milestone

Forward Kory Karlander is closing in on a franchise record. Karlander, who has 42 goals, is one-goal shy of tying the K-Wings' all-time UHL franchise record for goals in a season of 43 set by Jim Duhart (1999-00).

Five Alive

Forward Jason Lawmaster is currently on a five-game point streak. Lawmaster has also scored goals in four of his last five games.

Caught in Crosshairs

Forward Justin Cross is tied with Quad City's Brett Pilkington, Chicago's Todd Grant and Bloomington's Mike Zbringer for the league lead for goals by rookie 25. Ironically, besides being tied for the league lead, three players (Cross, Pilkington and Grant) have something else in common; they all played for the K-Wings. Pilkington played for Kalamazoo this season, while Grant dressed in 21 games last year.

Averaging a Point a Night

Defenseman Ryan Mahrle is off to a great start to his pro career. Mahrle has eight points, all assists, in his first eight games as a pro.
