The second half the season begins tonight, as the Kalamazoo Wings visit the Fort Wayne Komets. This will be the sixth meeting between the teams this year. The K-Wings lead the season series against Fort Wayne with a record of 4-1-0. Lifetime, the series is tied with a record of 26-26-9.

This evening continues a four-game road trip for Kalamazoo. The K-Wings started the swing with an 8-1 loss to Muskegon last Sunday. Kalamazoo leads Fort Wayne by five points for second place overall in the league.

The Komets have a two-game losing streak which includes a 4-3 shootout loss to the K-Wings. Fort Wayne is 10-5-2 against teams from the Eastern Conference. With a record 23-13-2 (48 points), the Komets lead the Rockford IceHogs by five points for first place in the Western Conference.

Extending the Streak

Forward Kory Karlander extended his goal streak to seven games. In the seven-game duration, Karlander has scored eight goals and registered 12 points. Besides being a K-Wings' season high, the goal streak ties Karlander with Port Huron's Bobby Kukulka for the longest in the UHL this season.

All Stars Shine Bright in Fort Wayne

The Kalamazoo Wings sent six players to the All-Star Classic on Wednesday (1/17) including goaltender Tom Askey, forwards Nick Bootland, Justin Cross and Kory Karlander, and defensemen Jeff Brown and Adam Elzinga. The Eastern Conference All-Stars defeated the Western Conference All-Stars 11-6. Nick Bootland had a three point night with two assists and a goal, rookie Justin Cross had a goal and an assist, Jeff Brown and Adam Elzinga each recorded an assist in the victory.

Leading by Example

Captain Nick Bootland is on a three-game point streak. Bootland has scored one goal and had four assists in the three game span. The captain has registered at least one point in six of his last seven games. During that stretch, Bootland has posted 11 points (3 goals, 7 assists).

Scoring Late

Kalamazoo has outscored their opponents 56-33 in the final stanza. Besides being their most prolific scoring period, the +23 also illustrates the K-Wings largest scoring differential.
