Rockford IceHogs News Release
Muskegon, Mich.- The first half of the 2006-07 regular season came to a close for the Rockford IceHogs on Friday night and the Hogs found themselves in a goaltenders duel. In a battle of All-Star goalies, Rockford's Frederic Cloutier turned away 27 Muskegon shots and the Fury's Clayton Pool knocked away 38 Rockford attempts, plus four others in the shootout, to propel his club to the 2-1 shootout win.
After a scoreless first period the Fury jumped on the board in the second frame. Muskegon withstood a Rockford rally and countered in the IceHogs zone when winger Rustyn Dolyny fired home his 17th goal of the season past Cloutier at 12:46.
In the third frame Rockford tied the contest after center Preston Mizzi slipped in his 11th goal of the season on the power play at 4:07, set up by Matt Gens and Nicolas Corbeil. That goal forced the extra session and the only goal scorers were from the Muskegon side as Todd Robinson (round two) and Adam Smyth (round four) notched win for the Fury with tallies.
Rockford held the Fury to just 0-for-3 on the advantage while the IceHogs went 1-for-7. Rockford extended its season long road unbeaten streak to four games (2-0-2).
Next Home Game: Sunday, Jan. 21 vs. Bloomington PrairieThunder. Game time is now 6:05 p.m. The IceHogs and the PrairieThunder match-up once again at the Rockford MetroCentre. Sunday is Dollar Days with the IceHogs and the rock station 104.9 FM, WXRX. Fans can purchase regular size hot dogs, soft drinks, select candy items and peanuts for just $1.
