Countdown to Face-Off
March 29, 2006 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Tonight will be the first of two meetings this week between the Kalamazoo Wings and the Flint Generals. The K-Wings are a perfect 6-0-0 against the Generals this season, which includes a record of 3-0-0 at Wings Stadium. The two teams will conclude their season series this Saturday night in Flint.
With their victory over Muskegon last Saturday, the K-Wings clinched a playoff spot; a victory tonight against Flint would clinch at least a second place finish in the Central Division. The K-Wings come into the game just three points behind the Fury for first place in both the UHL and the Central Division.
Flint starts the week in fourth place in Central Division and in tenth place overall in the United Hockey League. With just eight games remaining, Flint trails the Quad City Mallards by 12 points for the eighth and final playoff spot in the league.

Playoff Bound
By winning last Saturday night, the K-Wings have clinched a birth in the 2005-06 Colonial Cup Playoffs. This marks the quickest the K-Wings have clinched a UHL postseason birth.
Making His Debut
Making his K-Wings debut tonight will be Nick Toneys. Toneys joins the K-Wings after playing the past two seasons with the St. Norbert College Green Nights.
Record Breaking Performance
Goaltender Joel Martin set the UHL record for most shutouts in a single-season by recording his ninth shutout of the season on March 25th against the Muskegon Fury. Martin broke the record previous held by former K-Wing Chad Alban and current Fort Wayne Komet Kevin St. Pierre, who originally established the record during the 2003-04 season.
Nearing Double Digits
Forward Damian Surma is looking to extend his point streak to double digits. Surma's nine-game point streak is tied with Tyler Willis for the longest point streak by a K-Wings player. Willis's streak will remain at nine games, as he is currently on team's seven-day IR. The longest point streak this season by a K-Wings player is 20 games, held by Jason Deitsch.
