Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Countdown to Face-off Kalamazoo Wings Vs Port Huron Beacons Wings Stadium Kalamazoo, MI Saturday, February 22, 2003 7:30 PM
Game Preview It's a huge game with playoff implications as the Kalamazoo Wings host the Port Huron Beacons tonight at Wings Stadium. The K-Wings and the Beacons have met 5 prior times, with Kalamazoo skating away with 3 victories. Including tonight, the K-Wings and the Beacons will battle three more times, with all the games to be played at Wings Stadium.
The K-Wings enter the contest with a three game unbeaten streak. Kalamazoo should receive a boost to the lineup tonight, as Richard Keyes will return off the IR. The K-Wings second leading scorer hasn't played since February 9th, due to injury. In his absence, the K-Wings have learned to become a well-balanced scoring attack, and the return of Keyes to the lineup should make the K-Wings offense even more potent.
In the hunt for the post season, the K-Wings are still very much alive for the final UHL playoff spot. Kalamazoo starts play tonight just 5 points behind Rockford, 7 points behind Port Huron, and 8 behind Flint with 16 games remaining.
Tonight, we could see a different Beacons team, as this game will be the first time the K-Wings will play the Beacons with Bruce Ramsay as Head Coach. Ramsey took over for Brad Jones two weeks ago, and since heading behind the Beacons bench, Ramsay is 2-2-0. As the Beacons try to find their new identity for a playoff push, Ramsay will take over a very explosive offense that feature Jason Firth, Brent Gretzky, and Chris MacKenzie. While the Beacons offense usually takes center stage, Port Huron biggest weapon continues to be goaltender Kory Cooper.

Unbeaten Streak Extended to 3 Games The K-Wings are finding ways to get points in standings. Last night's shootout loss to Missouri extended the K-Wings unbeaten streak to 3 games.
Roed 1 Point Shy of Milestone With his next point, K-Wings forward Peter Roed will reach a personal milestone. Roed's next point will be his 200th of his career. In 347 games as a professional, Peter has tallied 88 goals and 111 assists.
