Chiefs Fall in 1,000th Game

Johnstown, PA- The Johnstown Chiefs played their 1,000th East Coast Hockey League game Saturday night, but fell 4-2 to the Toledo Storm in front of a standing room only crowd of 4,074 at the War Memorial. It was the Chiefs first sellout since 12/31/98 vs. Chesapeake, and their largest crowd since 11/28/97 vs. Pee Dee.

Chiefs right wing Lukas Smital scored in the second period, tying him with Bruce Coles as the Chiefs all-time leading goal scorer. Sam St. Pierre also tallied for Johnstown their third straight loss.

Wes Mason had a pair of goals for Toledo, while Brandon Fleenor and Timo Helbling also scored.

Chiefs goaltender Peter Aubry suffered the loss making 32 saves, while Storm goaltender Doug Teskey made 39 saves for his 21st win of the season.

The Chiefs fall to 21-29-8, while Toledo remains on first place in the Northwest division with a 36-12-8 record.

The Chiefs will travel to Lexington next Friday night to take on the Men O'War. Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. the Chiefs return to home ice when the Wheeling Nailers come to town.
