Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - Josh Tols (3-5) managed to match Tyler Viza's performance from the night before, as the Kane County Cougars (31-36) ended their six-series losing streak with a 4-0 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries (25-42) Sunday afternoon from Northwestern Medicine Field. Tols was the second straight Cougar to strikeout a dozen batters as he set a career-high 12 strikeouts against the Canaries.

Both pitchers got off to good starts as Tols and Ty Culbreth (6-6) kept the game scoreless for the first five innings. After stranding six base runners, the Cougars finally pulled through in the 6th with an RBI single from Nick Lovullo. Another run came home on a Culbreth wild pitch.

The 6th inning was also the first frame that Tols coughed up a hit to Sioux Falls. Cade Gotta's two-out single was the Canaries' first hit. They totaled only three in the game.

In the 8th inning, the Cougars added to their lead on a clutch two-out double from Josh Allen. It stretched out a hitting streak to ten games for Allen, a team-high.

Andy McGuire and Kyle Huckaby finished off the game for the Cougars out of the bullpen, working 1.1 scoreless innings.

The Cougars now welcome in the first place Milwaukee Milkmen for a three-game series. The Cougars are 2-4 against Milwaukee this year. First pitch from Northwestern Medicine Field on Monday is at 6:30 p.m. For tickets call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com.
