Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - An offensive onslaught carried the Fort Wayne TinCaps to a 12-1 victory over the Kane County Cougars on Friday night from Fifth Third Bank Ballpark as the TinCaps evened the series at a game apiece.
In the first inning, the Cougars (8-7) scored the game's first run as Orlando Calixte singled home Lane Adams to cap off a four-hit inning against starter Cody Hebner (2-0). Hebner only allowed one more hit as he lasted five innings while being supported by plenty of offense.
Aaron Brooks (2-1) didn't make it out of the fourth as he coughed up five runs in his 3.2 innings. A base hit by Matt Colantonio plus an error from Adams in center put the TinCaps ahead in the second. Brooks walked Colantonio with the bases loaded in the third to put Fort Wayne up by two while Travis Whimore's two-run single in the fourth was the final blow against Brooks.
In the seventh, the TinCaps blew it open with a five-spot as Kyle Gaedele broke through with a three-run triple. Gaedele scored on a Matt Ridings wild pitch while Duanel Jones knocked home two more for Fort Wayne in the seventh inning to finish the scoring.
The Cougars take on the TinCaps at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch on Saturday afternoon. Right-hander Jason Mitchell (0-1) starts for the Cougars against southpaw Frank Garces (0-1).
