Kane County Cougars News Release

Geneva, IL - The Kane County Cougars entered Friday night's game with the Cedar Kernels as the owners of a 10-2 mark against the Iowa opponent and a 23-8 home record in the second half, but lost 8-2 in front of 6,743 fans at Elfstrom Stadium.

The Kernels scored twice in the first against starter Ben Jukich, and the Cougars grabbed their first run off Cedar Rapids pitcher Andy HIll in the third on a two-out solo home run by Matt Sulentic, his first round-tripper as a Cougar. Jukich allowed three unearned runs in the fifth for a 5-1 deficit and left afterward. He surrendered the five runs -- one earned -- on six hits, walked three, fanned seven, made an error and balked in a tally.

The Kernels added three in the sixth against Randy Rapp for an 8-1 score, and the Cougars' final run arrived in the bottom of the inning when Jeff Baisley's double and 108th RBI plated Chad Boyd, who also doubled and had three hits in the game.

Jukich (3-2) took the loss, and Hill (4-10) tossed a complete game for his first victory since July 4. The playoff-bound Cougars (38-29) face the Kernels (32-34) again Saturday afternoon at 5 CT, as Trey Shields (10-9, 5.01) squares off against Anthony Ortega (1-6, 4.30).
