
Cougars Alumni Battling For Stanley Cup

Prince George, BC - With the Philadelphia Flyers and Chicago Blackhawks set to meet in the 2010 Stanley Cup Final, a former member of the Prince George Cougars will hoist the Stanley Cup for the first time.
Forwards Blair Betts of the Flyers and Dustin Byfuglien of the Blackhawks are the first Prince George Cougars alumni to play in the National Hockey League's Championship Series. Byfuglien became the first former Cougar to book a spot in the finals Sunday when he helped the Hawks defeat the San Jose Sharks in a four game sweep of the Western Conference Final. Byfuglien, who played 178 regular season games for the Cougars from 2002-2005, was instrumental in the Blackhawks third round victory, scoring in each of the four games against the Sharks, including three game winning goals. Byfuglien has scored a goal in five straight games and has eight goals, four of which game winners, and 10 points in 16 games during the 2010 playoffs. The 6'4", 257 pound product of Roseau, Minnesota, collected 47 goals and 93 assists for 140 points while playing in Prince George.
On Monday, Betts and the Flyers advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals with a five game defeat of the Montreal Canadiens. Betts is seventh overall in face-off percentage in the NHL playoffs, winning 56.6% of the draws he has taken. Betts has won 50% or more of his face-offs in 10 consecutive games. Betts played 215 regular season games for the Cougars from 1996-2000, recording 91 goals and 116 assists for 207 points, placing the Edmonton, Alberta native fifth among Prince George Cougars career scoring leaders. Betts was a member of the Cougars first two trips to the Western Conference Finals in 1997 and 2000.
The 2010 Stanley Cup Final gets underway Saturday in Chicago.
