Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release

PARK THE BUS

The Lubbock Cotton Kings wrapped up their toughest stretch of games this past weekend, winning two out of three contests in a three-in-three set against Southeast Division opponents. Overall during the stretch, the Kings posted a 3-3-0 record and played 6 games in 10 nights while logging 4,500 miles of travel. The Cotton Kings opened last week's action in Odessa on Tuesday, but the weary Kings dropped the Southwest Division battle 6-3 to the hungry Jackalopes. They hosted the Laredo Bucks Friday and the two defensive-minded squads combined for 13 goals in a game that had to be decided in overtime, which the Kings won 7-6 in the shootout. The offense disappeared the following night, as the two clubs closed out the season series and the home-and-home set in Laredo with the Bucks claiming a 2-0 victory. Lubbock finished the week Sunday ending a three-game road winless streak in Corpus Christi with a 3-2 overtime win with a game winning goal by Josh Anderson. Things slow down the remainder of the month for the Kings, as the Kings next six games will cover 14 days. The Kings will only play two games over a nine day span (Dec. 12 - Dec. 21), with just one game scheduled for this week. Lubbock hosts the Odessa Jackalopes Saturday night for just the second visit to Lubbock for the Jackalopes on the season. This week's schedule will be the first one of the season that does not include a road trip for the Kings.

TIS THE SEASON

On Friday night, Cotton Kings veteran forward Jan Melichercik produced his second four-point performance of not only the season, but for the month of December as well. Both single-game marks tied his career individual game high records and he has 8 four-point performances all-time as a Cotton King. Melichercik has three goals and six assists for nine points to lead the Kings in December scoring through six games in the month. The nine points in December ranks tied for seventh in the league. The following is a list of the CHL's top scoring leaders for December through December 11th.

"HEROES & LEGACIES" COTTON KINGS "HERO OF THE WEEK"

Each week a member of the Cotton Kings is selected as the "Heroes & Legacies Hero of the Week" for their performance in the previous week's games, and this week's recipient for their effort last week is speedy forward Nolan Graham. The second-year King was second in scoring for the week for Lubbock, behind Jan Melichercik, with 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points, but Graham only played in three of the four games during the week and his presence was noticed. The Nanaimo, BC native contributed a goal and a pair of assists for three points Friday against Laredo, but missed Saturday's 2-0 shutout loss in Laredo due to an overnight illness. His presence was missed, as the team fired a season low 18 shots, but he was back on the roster Sunday in Corpus Christi and tallied a power play goal in the Cotton Kings 3-2 OT win. Graham leads the Kings in offense this season with 22 points and 12 goals.
