Sioux City Musketeers News Release

The Sioux City Musketeers announced a flurry of roster moves on Monday, headlined by the acquisition of centerman Matteo Costantini.

Costantini, an 18-year old from St. Catherines, Ontario, was selected 131st overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2020 NHL Draft. The University of North Dakota commit was set to play for Penticton of the British Columbia Hockey League this season, however the league paused operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Matteo is a high-character individual that brings maturity to our forward group," said Musketeer general manager Andy Johnson, "He has elite puck skill and will provide an instant shot of offense to our team. We expect him to be an all-situations player for us."

Costantini spent the past two seasons in the Buffalo Junior Sabres organization, which included a full season playing in the Ontario Junior Hockey League. Last season he was Buffalo's top goal-scorer, lighting the lamp 36 times in 50 games. He also tallied 32 assists and his 68 total points were tied for the team lead.

The Musketeers also announced that defenseman Shai Buium has elected to remain with the team for the remainder of the 2020-21 season, rather than return to Shattuck-St. Mary's.

"Credit goes to the coaches at Shattuck for the development to this point as he's made tremendous strides over the past two seasons," continued Johnson "He's shown a high-end skillset on both ends of the rink and continues to get better every day."

The 6'3, 215-lbs blue-liner has recorded five points in 12 games with the Musketeers this season, including his first career USHL goal as part of Sunday's 6-2 win over Fargo. The University of Denver commit was given a "B" NHL Draft rating by NHL Central Scouting, indicating a likely second or third round selection.

The Musketeers now turn their attention to a two-game roadtrip against archrival Sioux Falls Thursday and Friday before welcoming the Stampede to the Tyson Events Center on Saturday.
