Corvallis Knights Update
June 29, 2011 - West Coast League (WCL)
Corvallis Knights News Release
Another big week is coming up at Goss Stadium, where your first-place Knights have won seven games in a row at home.
First, we host the sizzling Wenatchee AppleSox (18-2) in a three-game West Coast League series this Thursday through Saturday. The AppleSox are the two-time defending WCL champs and took 2 of 3 from Corvallis in a recent series in Wenatchee so the Knights will be looking for some payback.
Our annual July 3rd Fireworks Night game against the Bend Elks, presented by OSU Federal Credit Union, is set for 7:15 p.m. Sunday. It's been a sellout the past two years so make sure you get your tickets in advance. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
Check us out online at corvallisknights.com, or head on down to the Knights' downtown office on 4th and Madison and see us in person to purchase some tickets or merchandise.
Goss Stadium is the Place to Be!
Our next homestand kicks-off with another Block 15 Thursday, presented by KLOO-FM, tomorrow at 6:40 p.m. Enjoy a select Block 15 brew, priced right for sampling, or quench your thirst with a cold
Summer Knights Ale, the specially-crafted microbrew Nick and the gang at Block 15 created specifically for us.
It's also Albany Night, presented by Samaritan Health Services, and Halloween in June. There will be candy for the kids and prizes for the best costumes.
Friday is Cowbell Night, presented by Linn Benton Tractor. The first 500 fans get cowbells. And Saturday is Pioneer Telephone Military Appreciation Night, presented by KRKT. All active and retired military personnel will be admitted free of charge. Also, we are asking fans to please bring non-perishables to the Stadium on Saturday night for Operation Homefront's pantry. The first 50 fans to donate non-perishables get a FREE GA ticket.

We're now in first place in the West Division, a game ahead of Kitsap (14-10). The Knights have won four West Division regular-season titles in a row.
Corvallis Welcomes AppleSox
The Wenatchee AppleSox are off to a furious start, with 18 wins in their first 20 WCL games and are currently ranked #4 in a national summer college poll released weekly by Perfect Game Crosschecker. This is the Sox only regular-season visit to Corvallis.
The Sox feature the league's leading hitter in Breland Almandova of University of Hawaii. Wenatchee's probable starter for Thursday's series opener is Sox ace Aaron Brooks (3-0, 1.14) of Gonzaga.
Probable starting pitchers for the Knights are as follows:
Thursday, June 30 vs. AppleSox - Chase Johnson (0-1, 14.54) of Cal Poly
Friday, July 1 vs. AppleSox - Jace Fry (0-1, 0.96) of Southridge High School
Saturday, July 2 vs. AppleSox - Adam Duke (0-0, 3.60) of Oregon State
Sunday, July 3 vs. Elks - Max Beatty (3-0, 1.75) of Pacific Lutheran
Knights, Mid-Valley Lions Team Up To Help
The Knights and the Mid-Valley Lions Club of Corvallis will team up to collect used glasses and hearing aids before Sunday's Fireworks game against the Bend Elks.
The Lions will man several
large yellow eyeglass collection boxes in the plaza outside of Goss Stadium to collect the items. They'll be wearing their distinctive Lions vests, so they'll be easy to spot.
WCL All-Star Voting
The Glass Man All-Star Voting is underway and you can vote for your favorite Knight at The Glass Man (first 25 voters at The Glass Man get FREE tickets to the WCL All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 26), at the stadium, or online.
Corvallis fans will choose, by vote, one of the Knights to represent the West in the league's mid-summer classic.
Knights in the Pros
Ex-Knight Tommy Hanson (2005) of Atlanta returned from the disabled list last night and started at Safeco Field versus the Mariners. Tommy tossed six innings and struck out 8. The right-hander from Redlands, California is 9-4 on the season and has posted a 2.62 ERA while striking out 97 for the Braves. The last time Hanson pitched in the Seattle area was when he pitched for the Knights against the BlueJackets in Silverdale at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds.
Former Knights' catcher Chris Stewart (2001) of the San Francisco Giants went 2-for-4 yesterday at Wrigley Field as the Giants swept the Cubs 13-7, 6-3 to extend their win streak to 7.
