Bend Elks News Release
The Bend Elks were on the wrong side of the scoreboard again Tuesday Night, managing only run on 3 hits, falling to the Cowlitz Black Bears by a score of 4-1.
The Elks offense has continued to struggle as of late, hitting just .211 and scoring only 26 runs in their last 10 games, and that trend continued again on Tuesday, as the Elks couldn't figure out the starter for the Bears for a second consecutive night, this time falling at the hands of Matt Maurer, who went 6 innings and got the win, giving up 2 hits while striking out 7.
The Elks did get one in the top of the 9th after Kyle Buchanan scored Tyler Christian from 2nd on an RBI single, but frustration is clearly mounting for the Elks, who have fallen to 4th place in the standings and had Shortstop Ryan Dunn and head Coach Sean Kinney ejected from Tuesday's game for arguing balls and strikes in the 9th.
The Elks, now 10-10, will attempt to avoid the sweep Wednesday in Longview before returning for a 3 game series at home against Kelowna on Thursday.
Elks Split Squad gets walkoff Walk in the bottom of the 10th, win by a score of 5-4
Nick Wagner, who already has a walk-off hit to his credit with the Elks earlier in the season, got a 4 pitch walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10 to help the Elks Split Squad get the victory, defeating the San Francisco Seals 5-4.
Wagner hit a Solo Home run in the to start a 4 run 2nd inning for the Elks, in which the Elks would tally 3 hits, a walk, and receive the benefit of 2 seals errors in the inning. To the credit of the Seals, they got 1 in the 7th, 2 in the 8th, and 1 in the 9th to tie the game up and send it into extras, but the Elks finally capped off the victory at home.
The Split Squad, now 6-2 on the year and featuring nearly a dozen Elks on their roster, will play again at home to cap their 2 game series with the San Francisco Seals on Wednesday for Free Kids Wednesday, first pitch scheduled for 6:35.
