
Corvallis Holds on for 5-4 Win over Pippins

CORVALLIS, Oregon -- South Division-leading Corvallis turned back the Yakima Valley Pippins on Wednesday for a 5-4 victory to even the three-game series at a win each.
The Pippins had two runners on base in both the seventh and eighth innings and a runner on with one out in the ninth but couldn't push across a run to tie the game.
The final game of the three-game set is slated for 6:35 p.m. Thursday.
The Knights broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth with three runs. Mason Le broke the tie with a two-out double, and JC Ng followed with a two-run single.
Yakima Valley responded with two runs in the fifth on Jace Phelan's sixth home run of the summer.
Josh Hankins went 3-for-5 for the Pippins and Phelan finished 2-for-4.
Ryun Cross pitched three shutout innings of relief for the Pippins, striking out four and walking one.
