Normal CornBelters News Release
NORMAL, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters have announced the signing of former Florida A&M right-hander Thomas Nicoll.
Nicoll will slide into the rotation most likely after the contract of both Matt Portland and Ryan Lawlor were purchased last week by MLB organizations. This is the second starting pitcher Normal has acquired, with Zach Kirby being the first who came over on a trade from Florence.
A recent graduate of Florida A&M, he spent two years they after he transferred from Tallahassee Community College. In his first year as a Rattler, Nicoll appeared in 24 games, all in relief. He owned a 3-3 record with three saves, which was second on the team and posted a 3.24 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 41.2 innings. Earned his first two Division 1 wins against Mercer and South Florida.
Going into this Senior year, Nicoll made the transition into the starting rotation and went on to pitch in 15 games (13 starts). The Tallahassee native fanned an impressive 88 batters in 84.2 innings, which were both team-leading. His last season was highlighted by a complete game shutout of North Carolina Central. Nicoll allowed just four hits and struck out 11.
