Cornbelters Announce Partnership With Community Cancer Center

January 19, 2010 - Frontier League (FL)
Normal CornBelters News Release

Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters and Community Cancer Center are very pleased to announce the newest partnership formed for the team in their inaugural 2010 season. The Community Cancer Center has pledged to be the presenting sponsor of Cancer Survivors Night at the Corn Crib, the Normal CornBelters new stadium, for the next three years.

The first Sunday in June every year is nationally recognized as National Cancer Survivors Day. National Cancer Survivors Day is an annual, worldwide celebration of life that is held in hundreds of communities throughout the U.S., Canada, and other participating countries. Participants unite in a symbolic event to show the world that life after a cancer diagnosis can be a reality. This partnership will celebrate life and survivorship with those who have already beaten and those currently battling cancer.

The 2010 version of this great day falls on Sunday, June 6, and coincides with the Belters hosting last year's Eastern Division Champion, the Kalamazoo Kings at 5:00 p.m. The night will showcase all of the great things Community Cancer Center is doing for cancer patients in our community. As presenting sponsor of the event, 500 tickets will be donated to area cancer survivors and their families in Community Cancer Center's name. Other highlights of the event include a "call to the field" for all area cancer survivors during the 7th inning stretch to be recognized by all of those in attendance as well as a 50/50 raffle to raise money for the Community Cancer Center's cause.

"We, at the Community Cancer Center are thrilled that the CornBelters organization has decided to honor Cancer Survivors on National Cancer Survivors day during their inaugural season," says Barb Nathan, Executive Director. "Cancer affects four out of every five families and each of those affected is a survivor. We celebrate their survivorship with them each day but are grateful and honored to be the presenting sponsor for the CornBelters 2010 Survivor Day Celebration."

Other area businesses will be invited to be event sponsors and be able to purchase tickets to give to survivors as well. The CornBelters and Community Cancer Center will have a pre-game function at the Corn Crib to further honor survivors for their battle with cancer.

Zach Ziler, Director of Ticket Sales for the Normal CornBelters will be working very closely in the planning and implementation of this event. "We have had great success with this night with past clubs in other markets and wanted to bring that success here to Bloomington/Normal," says Ziler. "We specialize in helping people get away from the hustle and bustle of their everyday life for an enjoyable night of entertainment at the ballpark. Helping cancer survivors, cancer patients, and their families celebrate life is our way of doing just that, and we are honored to have the Community Cancer Center's name attached to that effort."
