York Revolution News Release
(York, Pa.): This Saturday (April 17) marks the first time that fans can catch a glimpse of the 2010 York Revolution, with the Heroes of the Diamond Game presented by General Dynamics. But for fans, the ballgame comes with a small twist: fan-favorite, and staff ace Corey Thurman will start the game on the mound for the opposition. Thurman, a year-round York resident, will honor his country, and pay homage to his military background, by suiting up as starting pitcher for the United States Military All-Stars in Saturday's exhibition. He'll be joined on the team by local hero Jesse Trail, a 22-year-old Gettysburg native actively serving in the United States Navy as a Master at Arms, and Brian Crimmel, member of the Susquehanna League's Jacobus team, and Pennsylvania National Guard.
In a way, it's a homecoming of sorts for Thurman and Trail. For Trail, the homecoming is a much-anticipated return to his home region during a reprieve from his service. For Thurman, experiencing some military affiliation again is a homecoming in its own right.
Thurman was born at Fort Gordon (GA) Hospital when his father, a retired Army captain, was stationed in Georgia. At a young age, Thurman moved all over the world as his fathers' stops took the family to Germany, Korea, and eventually back stateside to Fort Belvoir near Alexandria, VA. The time spent in Virginia when he was just three years old provided some of his first memories of the military lifestyle.
"Playing for the United States Military All-Stars means a lot to me," said Thurman, entering his third season with the Revs as the team's already-named Opening Night starter on Thursday, April 22. "My dad played softball when he was travelling in the Army, and sports are taken very seriously among servicemen. It's an outlet to enjoy hobbies while serving, and it gives them a chance to have fun and get out and play. I'm looking forward to being a part of it, and hearing all of their stories in the dugout."
First pitch for Saturday's long-anticipated exhibition game is set for 3 p.m. Gates open at 2 p.m. with the first 1,000 fans receiving a Camouflage Hat Giveaway presented by St. Onge. There will be some moving pregame ceremonies as the Revs honor those who support our freedom at home and abroad. Members of the 56th Stryker Brigade will take the field, with a giant American flag presented by the Pennsylvania National Guard.
Fan Fest presented by Great Country 107.7 will begin outside the stadium at 1 p.m. with a huge preseason party along Brooks Robinson Plaza.
Tickets are still available, and can be ordered online at YorkRevolution.com, by phone at (717) 801-HITS, or in person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office. There are all kinds of great deals for fans to attend the event, including free admission for all military personnel who show their military ID. Admission is also free for all full-season, 27-game, and 24-game season ticket-holders. For any other package-holder, admission costs just $2, and for everyone else, a ticket costs just $4.
