SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - The Mississippi RiverKings, the longest continually operating professional sports franchise in the greater Memphis area, and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Derek Landmesser have announced today that they signed free agent forward Corey Bellamy for training camp. Terms and conditions were not released.

Bellamy, 26, joins the RiverKings after spending last season with the Huntsville Havoc. The 5th-year-pro had six points (2g, 4a) in 38 games in 2014-15, while amassing 302 penalty minutes, which was most in the SPHL. The RiverKings will be the third SPHL team that Bellamy plays for, after spending parts of two seasons with Huntsville from 2013 to 2015 and one season with the Columbus Cottonmouths in 2012-13.

"Corey is a heart and soul type of player that will add grit and toughness to our lineup," said Landmesser. "He leads by example and leaves everything on the ice night in and night out."

Bellamy has 43 games of ECHL experience to his name, seeing the ice with the Elmira Jackals over the course of three seasons from 2011 to 2014. He accumulated 165 penalty minutes with the Jackals, while adding five points (2g, 3a).

"I am very excited to have the opportunity to play for the RiverKings," said Bellamy. "I think that my style of physical play and my speed translates well to the RiverKings style of game."

The Springfield, Massachusetts native played two seasons in the FHL with Cape Cod and 1000 Islands from 2011 to 2013.

"The goal this year is to win a championship and I will do anything and everything for the team and the fans to do so," said Bellamy.

The Mississippi RiverKings are proud to be the longest, continually operating sports franchise in the Memphis area, as they begin their 24th season in 2015. The home opener is scheduled for Friday, October 23 at the Landers Center. Groups of 15 or more who purchase a group for that night will receive an identical group package to any other regular season game for free. RiverKings' season tickets for the 2015-16 season are on sale now by calling 662-342-1755! Pay in full by September 1 to receive a commemorative season ticket holder booklet.
