Rockford Aviators News Release

LOVES PARK, IL - The Rockford Aviators are proud to announce that the contract of outfielder Edgar Corcino has been purchased by the Minnesota Twins organization.

Corcino spent the last two seasons with the Rockford Aviators and in 2014 led the team in nearly every offensive category. He finished the season batting .302 with 112 hits, eleven home runs, and 51 RBIs. He also started all 95 games for the Aviators last season, setting a new franchise record for games played in a season.

"Obviously, I am very happy for Edgar," said Aviators Manager James Frisbie. "Having him in the outfield really helped us, but more importantly, it helped him blossom into a better athlete."

According to Frisbie, it wasn't just Corcino's athletic ability on the field, but his character and reputation off the field that helped him draw attention from the Twins.

"The Twins reached out to [Windy City Thunderbolts Manager] Ron Biga and [Evansville Otters Manager] Andy McCauley about Edgar and they both spoke very highly of him and I think that really helped seal the deal for him."

It didn't take long for players in the Twins organization to celebrate the news about Corcino joining the organization. Corcino's long-time friend and the Twins' 2012 first-round draft pick, Jose Barrios tweeted out his congratulations on Tuesday.

Corcino will continue to train in the offseason and will be with the Twins organization when Spring Training begins in Fort Meyers, Florida on February 27.

"I'm really proud of Edgar and I really hope he gets a chance to play for the Twins," said Frisbie. "The ball is in his court. He has to go in and perform and if he does that, which I know he can, he will have a chance to make the club."

With the purchase of Corcino's contract, the Twins have made him the fourth Aviator from the 2014 squad to be signed by a Major League organization joining pitchers Joey Wagman (Athletics) and Josh Slaats (Diamondbacks) as well as fellow outfielder Jose Martinez (Braves).
