Corbin Deals In 3-1 Win Over Blaze
July 15, 2010 - California League (CalL1)
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes earned their first win in Bakersfield since 2007, with a 3-1 victory over the Blaze on Wednesday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.
Starting pitcher Patrick Corbin and company were incredible on Wednesday, holding the Blaze to just two hits through nine innings.
Corbin was staked to an early 1-0 lead in the first, as the Quakes got an unearned run off of Blaze starter Wilfredo Boscan.
Mike Trout, making his Quakes' debut, singled to lead off the game. Alberto Rosario followed by reaching on a fielder's choice, as Trout was eliminated on a ground ball to third. Two batters later, Gabe Jacobo followed with a sinking line drive to centerfielder David Paisano. The ball skipped in front of Paisano and then all the way to the center field wall, allowing Rosario to score from first, giving the Quakes a 1-0 lead.
Corbin made just one mistake on Wednesday, as he left a pitch up to Davis Stoneburner in the bottom of the first inning. Stoneburner homered to straight-away center field, his 12th of the year, tying the game at 1-1.
A solo shot to left field off the bat of Clay Fuller gave the Quakes the lead for good in the fourth, as they took a 2-1 lead against Boscan (5-9).
The Quakes claimed a 3-1 advantage in the fifth, as Kevin Ramos led off the inning with a single and eventually scored on Rosario's two-out RBI double.
That was enough for Corbin, who allowed just the one run on two hits over six innings.
Jose Perez followed out of the bullpen with two perfect innings, before turning it over to closer Eddie McKiernan, who fired a perfect inning of his own, earning his 17th save of the year in the process.
With the win, the Quakes (12-8, 51-39) are now in first place by themselves, one game up on High Desert in the South Division.
Trout finished the game with one hit in four at-bats. He joins the Quakes after leading the entire Midwest League in hitting with a .362 average.
Ryan Chaffee (3-4) will look to give the Quakes a three-game winning streak on Thursday, as he'll head to the hill for Rancho Cucamonga. Bakersfield will counter with right-hander Carlos Pimentel (6-4). First pitch is slated for 7:35pm from Bakersfield.
On Tuesday, July 20th, the Quakes return to The Epicenter, opening a three-game home stand against Bakersfield. The upcoming home stand includes a GIVE Recycle Tuesday, an early-morning 10:35am game and a Buffalo Wild Wings Thirsty Thursday. Tickets can be purchased by calling (909) 481-5000 or anytime online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter on Saturday night...Go Quakes!
