
'Copita Rapids' to Take Place on July 22

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Friday, June 14, 2012) - The Colorado Rapids announced on Friday the creation of the 'Copita Rapids,' a 3v3 tournament to be held on July 22 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The tournament will be open to players ranging from eight years old to adults, with the winners in each division receiving recognition during the Rapids' August 4 match against Real Salt Lake.
The Copita Rapids will be run in partnership with Telemundo Denver and ESPN Deportes Radio 87.7, and will be presented by Coca-Cola.
"The Copita Rapids is a great chance for players of all ages to participate in a fun and exciting tournament here at Dick's Sporting Goods Park," said Rapids President Tim Hinchey. "We're looking forward to a great crowd for the event, and seeing all the participants again at the Rapids match on August 4."
Teams in the Copita Rapids will consist of six players and a coach, and for the registration fee of $100 for youth teams and $150 for adult teams, participants will each receive a ticket to the Rocky Mountain Cup rivalry match on August 4 as well as a Copita Rapids t-shirt. Each team will play a minimum of three matches, and the winners in each division will receive a Copita Rapids championship medal, access to a post-game autograph session with a Rapids player or coach on August 4, and recognition at the match against Salt Lake.
