Cooke Impresses in Lightning Loss

December 3, 2005 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Rockford Lightning News Release

In each of the Lightning's seven games this season, five or more players have scored in double figures. Friday night was no different as five Lightning players scored in double figures, but it was not enough as they dropped their first road loss of the season falling to the Yakama Sun Kings 123-114.

Led by Roger Powell's 22 points, the Lightning took 1.5 quarter points in the loss. After losing the first quarter 33-22, they played even in the second at 28 a piece taking an eleven point deficit into the locker room at halftime. They came out fired up in the third and won the quarter 41-27 taking a three-point lead into the final quarter, before falling 35-23 in the fourth for a seven point loss.

The loss is the first for the Lightning on the road this season, and only their second in seven games. The Lightning remain in first place in the Eastern Conference as Gary lost on the road last night in Michigan. The Bolts league best record falls to 5-2 with the loss.

A bright spot in the loss for the Lightning was the play of Lenny Cooke. In his first game off the injured reserve, Cooke scored 12 points in only 5 minutes of play last night, connecting on all five of his shot attempts with two from behind the arc.

The Sun Kings had seven of their eight active players on Friday night score in double figures. Led by Elvin Mims with 23, and Jeremee McGuire with 18 and 10 rebounds, the Sun Kings improved their record to 4-3 on the season.

The Lightning will travel to Idaho tonight to take on the Stampede at 9:10 P.M. (CST).
