(York, Pa.): The York Revolution has announced that the Atlantic League contract of outfielder Shannon Wilkerson has been purchased by the Minnesota Twins. It marks the first time in the nine-year history of the Revolution that Minnesota has purchased the contract of a York player in-season.

Wilkerson will also become the first player to play in the Twins organization following a stint in York. To date, the Revolution has placed a former player with 25 of the 30 MLB clubs with the addition of Minnesota (including in-season and off-season signings), leaving the Chicago Cubs, Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees as the only remaining organizations that have not employed a former York player.

Wilkerson, 26, began his seventh pro season by appearing in 40 games for the Revolution. He batted .256, with 11 of his 40 hits going for extra bases. (Seven doubles, two triples and two home runs.) Wilkerson also stole seven bases for the Revolution, after signing with the club on May 22.

Drafted out of Augusta State University in Georgia, Wilkerson had spent his entire career in the Boston Red Sox organization, selected in the eighth round in 2009. He ascended as high as Triple-A Pawtucket last season for 25 games, spending the majority of the past three years at Double-A Portland. Last season, Wilkerson appeared in a career-high 130 games between Pawtucket and Portland, and drove in a career-high 49 runs combined in both stops. He bats right-handed; his only Major League time with the Red Sox came in spring training games.

Since the beginning of last season, the Revolution has seen five former players appear on Major League rosters, a number unmatched over that period by any Atlantic League franchise. LHP Scott Rice (Mets), LHP Ian Thomas (Braves/Dodgers), RHP Julio DePaula (Orioles), LHP Ryan Feierabend (Rangers) and 3B Andy Marte (Diamondbacks) have all donned Major League uniforms since April 2013 after playing in York between the 2011 and 2014 seasons.

The York Revolution Professional Baseball Club is a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, and Atlantic League Champions in 2010 and 2011. 2015 is the Revolution's ninth season of operation at Santander Stadium, the centerpiece of Downtown York, PA, located at 5 Brooks Robinson Way. The facility hosts all 70 home games in addition to myriad events through the entire calendar year.
